RAPU-RAPU PROJECT |
Rapu-rapu island is a small island off the coast of Luzon near Legaspi City. Hixbar Mining operated a massive sulphide mine on the island between 1938 and 1941 which was rehabilitated after the war and was in production until 1960. It was then badly damaged by a typhoon. Benguet Corporation also actively explored a massive sulphide deposit at Ungay/Malabago on the island, in the 1960’s, about 2.5 kms. to the south-east. We have recently completed more than 70 line kilometers of horizontal loop EM surveying for TVI Pacific Inc. on Rapu-rapu, mostly over these two deposits and the area in between. Results of the out-of-phase survey at 1,777 Hz are shown below. Conductors are represented by negative values and are colored blue. At Ungay/Malabago a strong anomaly has been recorded over the known deposit and additional peripheral conductors are indicated. At the Hixbar Mine a complex, “C” shaped, conductor is outlined centered on Line 17100 E, right over the old mine workings. Related extensions of the anomaly continue to the east. |
